Moina Shaiq
Moina Shaiq is a 25 years resident of Fremont, California who is very active in the community. She has been working tirelessly for the past 6 years, perticularly since 9/11 to get Muslims involved in community work, especially with people of other faiths. She believes that this is the way to build bridges of understanding among different ethnicities.
Recognizing the outstanding contributions she has made to the community at large, recently State Senator Ellen Corbett (California District 10) honored her with "'Woman of the Year" award and Congressman Pete Stark entered into Congressional Record Moina's outstanding work and community involvement.
On Wednesday, April 23, 2008, UMA invited community members, government officials and elected offcials to recognize the excellent contribution made by Moina Shaiq for humanitarian causes. About 90 people attended the event at Chandni restaurant, Newark, California. City of Fremont Mayor, Bob Wasserman, State Senator Ellen Corbett's representative, Anthony Valdez, past Fremont City Council Member, Dominic Dutra and others made eloquent tribute to Moina's efforts in humanitarian causes. UMA honored Moina Shaiq with a plaque presented by Dr. Waheed Siddiqee, a long time Muslim activist and past president of UMA.
